2001 – 2002 Season
Jaromir Jagr starts his new season with an all new high. With Peter Forsberg`s decision to skip a season, Jaromir will become the best paid NHL player in the upcoming season –$10,033,333 per year. The management of the Washington Capitals team announced that they signed a seven year contract with a year option having a net income of 88 million dollars (app. 3.3 billion Czech crowns).
In connection with this contract the club improved the current contract he brought from Pittsburgh by 2 million dollars. This was the most lucrative contract in the history of the NHL. On October 6, 2001 in a game against New Jersey he shot the first goal - his 440th, the first goal in a Washington jersey and the first goal since he left Pittsburgh. However, due to his knee injury he did not do well at the beginning of the season. For example, in a match against the Senators he received 5 negative points.
Before the upcoming Olympic Games he returned to his abilities even though it was not enough for 100% satisfaction. Jaromir is climbing to the top of the Canadian charts. We might have seen him on the top if it weren’t for his 13 missed NHL games. He is in great shape and ready for the Olympics. I even dare say that in Salt Lake City he played his best games representing the country. In the first game against Germany he marked two passes and two assists, which is the first time he has achieved this as part of the national team. Unfortunately, our team failed in the quarter final against Russia.
21.03. in the game with Toronto Maple Leafs, Jaromir achieved the most
points during one game (2+2) in Washington. After the Olympic games he kept
him self in excellent condition, but that wasn't enough for the playoffs.
For the very first time since Jaromir entered the NHL, his team didn't
qualify for the playoffs, thus he wasn't able to play for the cup (by the
way even his previous team - Pittsburg didn't get in), although Washington
was left just outside the qualifying teams. The past season wasn't very
prosperous for Jaromir. He didn't even reach the level for Art Ross trophy
and on top of that during the first half of the season, Jaromir was forced
to deal with number of injuries, which cost him 13 games! However, he scored
30 points in row for the 11th time! (The record is 15 times, held by Mike
Gardener). Jaromir finished the season amongst the top 10 in the NHL for the
9th time, an excellent record! He wouldn't miss to represent his country
during the World Cup in Sweden, where he was scoring points in the 6
consecutive games. Finally he was prevented from scoring only during the 1/4
finale game which was lost to Russia 1:3, by the way that spelled the end
for the Czech team, although they didn't loose a single game before!

2000 – 2001 Season
Due to his injury, Jaromir Jagr missed the All-Star games. Jagr was nominated for the Hart and Pearson trophy. Again, after a long break he played with his friend Mario Lemieux, who on December 27 played for Pittsburgh “helped” Jagr win the trophy. During the season Jagr was under a lot of pressure from the media and his fans. There were rumors that he would leave Pittsburgh, which later happened in July 2001… Jagr left for Washington. He left the Pens with a club record of 806 played games and 16 assists in a row.

1999 - 2000 Season
Before the summer training camp he cut his long hair. Even though he missed 19 games he won his fourth Art Ross trophy for scoring 96 points. He was named the best player of November and also the player of the week - November 4-11, 1999. He was the first player to get over one million votes at the All-Star games election (the exact number was 1,020,736). Before Jaromir, P. Coffey was the one with the most votes with 620,788. The difference was caused by the use of the internet in Jagr’s case. He won his second Lester B. Pearson Trophy and missed the Hart trophy by one vote. In the playoff score he ended up 7th (11 games/16 (8+8). In the season rating he was 4th in the order of shooters (42 goals, 63 games), 4th in assists (54 assists) and 5th in the number of shots (290).
